Circle of 4ths & 5ths
Another quick lesson for you. When I work on scales and jazz patterns in 12 keys, most of the time I cycle through each pattern in 4ths or 5ths. It just keeps things simple.
Now looking at the above picture, when you go through it clockwise, that is the 5th cycle C G D A etc.. When you go through counter clockwise then you are essentially doing 4ths C F Bb Eb etc…
Of course you can also do cycle through your Jazz licks, scales, and patterns in half steps, whole steps, and 3rds is common.
Thanks for the knowledge i have gain from your site. I would appreciate if you could help me out on how to flow well on the sequence of 4th and 5th circle. I really mean the procedure to go about it. Thank you very much
The best way to go about it is repetition until you got it memorized. When you’re going through the circle of 5ths, just know you will always jump a 5th higher from the start of the last pattern. The circle of 4ths is just the circle of 5ths backwards. So once you go one, you pretty much got them both down.
Hope this helps.
Thank you, Gregory London for your direction. -Andy
No problem Andy…
