When I was in high school, our jazz band went to the Pittsburg (Kansas) State University Jazz Festival.  It was my favorite event of the year.  It was all high school and college students, but it was the most fun for me.  I was always running around listening to the different schools' bands and fascinated by it all.  The festival always featured a number of professional musicians and the day's events culminated in a concert featuring the best musicians from all over the area.  It was a fantastic offering and I just discovered that it is about to have it's 37th Festival in March 2011!  Congratulations to PSU!  If you are a young person interested in jazz music, this might be a place for you to go check out some live music if you happen to live near Pittsburg, Kansas.

This festival is approved as a regional program for participation by students in the following states: Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Because of the stature of our guest artists, it is imperative that all applications get in as early as possible. Bands will be admitted on first come first served basis till all slots are full.
