If you haven’t seen this Jazz video of James Morrison on You Tube yet, you’re in for a real treat. There are a whole bunch of cool things James Morrison (an Australian trumpet player/trombone player) shows off on. Switching back and forth between trombone and trumpet, multiphonics at the beginning on trombone, using a trombone trigger to play a bunch of Jazz licks on trombone, and of course a lot of high notes. He goes up to a high G, but mainly does it one handed while making it look very easy. The blues changes are of the tune, “Things Ain’t What They Used to be”.
Allen Vizzutti takes an awesome trumpet ride on this tune and an amazing trumpet cadenza at the end with a bunch of high notes in between. I hope you enjoy!
If you haven’t watched this great Jazz video of Scott Englebright (aka “Scooter”) performing the tune Maynard Ferguson you’re in for a real treat. That’s right, Maynard Ferguson is the name of the tune. I always thought that was a weird name for a tune. What do you think?
This was when Scott Englebright was at the University of North Texas. At one point I wanted to go to this University. UNT is considered one of the best Jazz Universities around. Anyway, the reason I added the Jazz video to the site is because there are a lot of high notes and Scott Englebright has a really fat trumpet sound.
By the way, is Scooter’s last name spelled Engelbright, or Englebright? I’ve seen it spelled both ways all over the internet.
You’re are going to love this live Jazz trumpet video of Arturo Sandoval, Randy Brecker, Chuck Findley, and Byron Stripling all taking a ride on Cherokee, trading eights, and starting and finishing with a great harmonized head of Cherokee. All four of these top notch trumpet players take phenomenal Jazz rides on Cherokee, which we all know is a pretty tough tune. Arturo Sandoval plays some pretty impressive high notes, Byron Stripling nails every chord change, Chuck Findley plays a very melodic trumpet solo, and Randy Brecker shows off his trumpet style all in one very fast, trumpet lick filled Jazz video. This recording was performed with the GRP All Star Big Band.
This new blog was created for trumpet players interested in finding some new Jazz licks. Of course, everyone is welcome. You don't have to play trumpet to use the licks and patterns on this site. There are cool Jazz trumpet videos, Jazz trumpet solos, and a Jazz trumpet forum to take advantage of as well.
Their ain't nothin' wrong with being a copy cat, as long as you copy the right Cat.
