Back when I was younger, Miles Davis was one of the jazz trumpet players I started off transcribing. I didn’t transcribe this particular version of Straight, No Chaser though. The one I transcribed was when Miles was much older. I love Miles Davis solos because he uses a lot of bends. This particular solo he […] Read the rest of this entry…

You’ll enjoy this smooth trumpet transcription of Blue Mitchell improvising over the jazz standard tune, “I’ll Close My Eyes”. The trumpet transcription is in a different key, but don’t worry about that. There are still some nice patterns to get from it.

With potential hurricanes heading towards New Orleans and other gulf coast regions, we need to have something help keep our spirits up. For us jazz fans, there isn’t much better than a great trumpet jazz solo. So why not make it a Woody Shaw trumpet transcription improvising over the tune, “There Will Never Be Another […] Read the rest of this entry…

We all know Donna Lee is a fun yet fast jazz standard to improvise over. Ryan Kisor takes this trumpet challenge to the next level with plenty of triplets in low and high ranges. As always with Ryan Kisor, he likes to take patterns outside the box which means there are some nice licks to […] Read the rest of this entry…

This is a nice Dexter Gordon tenor sax transcription over Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham. Blue Bossa is a really fun jazz standard to improvise over. Minor changes going into a nice ii V7 I. There are a lot of ii V7 I licks to grab from this transcription that sound so natural. Dexter also […] Read the rest of this entry…

This is a really nice trumpet transcription of Ryan Kisor playing over the tune “I’ll Close My Eyes”. It’s quite a relaxing trumpet solo and tune. This recording is off the album ‘Kisor II’ by Ryan Kisor. There are lots of outside pattern licks in this trumpet solo. I hope you enjoy.

This Freddie Hubbard Jazz trumpet transcription on Misty has a really nice introduction by Freddie. The transcription includes the chord changes which is always a plus. Not sure why chords would ever be excluded from a transcription, but they often times are. This transcription is from the album Sweet Return. The ending has a good […] Read the rest of this entry…

Here is a nice video of some great jazz legends taking trumpet solos over A Night in Tunisia. Lee Morgan, Maynard Ferguson, Clifford Brown, Arturo Sandoval, and Dizzy Gillespie. Unfortunately the transcriptions don’t have chord changes. But A Night in Tunisia isn’t too complicated to just grab the chord changes from somewhere else.
