Jazz Trumpet Licks

This the first post at JazzTrumpetLicks which utilizes a Facebook embedded video. Let’s hope the Facebook servers are just as fast as Google’s servers. This Roy Hargrove live jazz trumpet solo performance demonstrates some hard bebop lines for sure, that’s why I posted the video. As usual, Roy Hargrove also builds up the solo well with lot’s of silence near the beginning of the solo.

Apologies as I don’t the name of the tune. If you know more details please share.

Here is a nice video of some great jazz legends taking trumpet solos over A Night in Tunisia. Lee Morgan, Maynard Ferguson, Clifford Brown, Arturo Sandoval, and Dizzy Gillespie.

Unfortunately the transcriptions don’t have chord changes. But A Night in Tunisia isn’t too complicated to just grab the chord changes from somewhere else.

This trumpet solo transcription with Roy Hargrove on trumpet and Justin Robinson on saxophone is really great. The transcription is from the album Earfood. Another trumpet transcription of Roy Hargrove soloing over Strasburg St. Denis was posted earlier in this website’s history, but every variation is worth listening to. The better thing about this video is the head of the tune is transcribed so you can hear the repeating lines between trumpet and saxophone.
