Variations on A Night in Tunisia by Allen Vizzutti

Posted on September 06, 2009 by Sweets

I ran across this interesting rendition of A Night in Tunisia trumpet solo cadenza by Allen Vizzutti on You Tube and I thought I would share it with you. Allen Vizzutti performed this excellent trumpet cadenza with the Temple Jazz Orchestra. Allen Vizzutti also demonstrates some really nice circular breathing techniques and cheesy stage humor by making it look like his fingers are on fire because he’s moving them so fast.

Tunisia Blues – an Arturo Sandoval creation 1

Posted on August 18, 2009 by Sweets

Arturo Sandoval holding a trumpet.I love Arturo Sandoval, I really don’t know whether or not he came up with the Tunisia Blues – which is a blues break in A Night in Tunisia.

Click the red play button to listen to Arturo Sandoval’s great trumpet performance, lots of great licks to steal in the video.

One of the main reasons I wanted to share this Jazz trumpet video with you is because there are some really great close ups of how Arturo Sandoval handles the trumpet while doing some really intense soloing.

Round red play button.

If you look closely, you can see how Arturo Sandoval switches back and forth between flat trumpet fingerings and curled trumpet fingerings. I’m not a 100% sure on how this helps his trumpet technique, but it obviously must be doing something for him.

Also take a look at how Arturo Sandoval sets up his chops before playing in the super upper register on trumpet. It’s just something to think about.  There is a really nice pedal tone performance at the end of his solo, finally ending on a super high note. Anyway, Arturo performed this great trumpet solo back in 1991 at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival

Arturo Sandoval trumpet cadenza on A Night in Tunisia

Posted on May 13, 2009 by Sweets

Arturo SandovalArturo Sandoval takes a great trumpet solo cadenza on A Night in Tunisia from his album The Best of Arturo Sandoval. I cut out the best part of this recording. Arturo Sandoval starts the solo off with a trumpet cadenza with some really fast trumpet licks. Then Arturo Sandoval changes the whole mood and switches to some nice blues licks. And finally, the band comes back in and Arturo Sandoval continues to play some really nice licks ending on a high note. One last thing I almost forgot to mention is that this is a live trumpet solo.

Two awesome Jazz trumpet solos of Claudio Roditi 5

Posted on April 12, 2009 by Sweets

Claudio Roditi Probably my most favorite trumpet CD ever made is To Diz with Love: Diamond Jubilee  Recordings. It is just filled with awesome trumpet players like Claudio Roditi, Wynton Marsalis, Jon Faddis, and more.

Well I wanted to feature Claudio Roditi because he is just awesome on this CD. He has such an aggressive sound and plays the trumpet very clean.

A crazy fast and high Arturo Sandoval Trumpet Solo

Posted on April 12, 2009 by Sweets

Here is a fun Jazz trumpet video to take a look at. Arturo Sandoval is an amazing Jazz trumpet player and this video shows just that. The cool thing about Arturo Sandoval is that he is one of the few that has both Jazz chops and high note chops. One of my favorite CDs of Arturo Sandoval is The Very Best of Arturo Sandoval. Arturo Sandoval takes a really good ride on A Night in Tunisia on the CD.
